Start Something

Tales of endurance heard, years of long labor told proudly. Stories of places been, journeys there and back again laid bare, and I'm listening; listening to the elderly worker. Parallels made of that journey and mine and I'm reflecting. "Will you join us?", a question recently asked of me in a work's shift from labor to education as a manager stopped between breaks and simply sought to find where I was in my headspace. "No. I'm just exploring right now.", my condensed answer given here, tired from an industry that has taken more than gave me. Still, I would rejoin the fold of skilled laborers in the same industry not long after, curious about more than what we did, wondering more about who was doing such work; but for the time then I needed to escape, find margin in some fancy hotel that called me to dream again and rest from busy and hard-pressed working conditions.

Then I would wander for a moment, catch my breath in the busy and burnout of soul; then and now I'd start something beyond just offering a service done: life that isn't hindered by a rigid schedule that simply says "Labor!".
