Work (A Slightly Older Poem I Wrote)

Note About The Piece Below: this poem was written in response to a prompt for a poem that redefines a word. In this case it was "work".

Places, faces, and times.

Traded is time for income.

Traded are miles and energy for payment of a sort.

Some eight, ten, twelve hour slots for work.

Places, faces and times.

Days are used and we become used,

worn in our work,

taking joy from work.

Waking from some dream,

living again in work,

a new effort that becomes a blessing,

a new grace given as our hope returns,

as our joy returns,

walking into a beautiful new work:

one of living that’s more than just earning income.
