Common Words (Poetry)

Common words from some common man,

on a common day,

remembering words said to me,

“You aren’t who you used to be.”;

and I’m not.

 

Uncommon ways to express unexplored terrain,

as I strain to write past common ways,

remembering the words said to me,

“I’m not who I used to be.”,

and I write better because I’m not;

grateful for common words becoming amazing.

I Saw

          I saw the child before me, showing joy and innocence, present in the present and fully embracing jubilation even in the everyday. I witnessed the fun still evident in the fundamental responsibilities of daily living as the aging youth went about their day. I saw dancing, then the timid pulling back of a child-like nature.
