The Legend Of Emerald Valley (An Older Fiction Story I Wrote)

One hundred trees, rare trees, ones that held rare properties. Beautiful, unique, and the only ones of their kind, they were sought after by all. Seen, then not, this strange phenomenon was one many wondered about, and often looked to experience.

Life of all varieties gathered there, visited these marvels, and delighted when the experience to see one disappear and then reappear was witnessed by them. Lasting for many years, through generations of the world they lived in, they stood as reminders of miracles. They were enjoyed by all, and coveted by some......until one fateful day.

Where these one hundred wonders of creation once stood, now only stumps remain; stumps and rumble. Here a place of prosperity and mystery existed. A place where wonder was commonplace. "What happened here?", one might wonder as they looked upon the ruins where a once thriving kingdom existed there. Where one hundred trees of long lost lore built a great legacy, a great people. That is a tale of triumph and tragedy. This is the legend of emerald valley.

Known the world over, the people of Emerald Valley were known for their use of these one-of-a-kind trees. Learning to communicate with these strange trees, they also found a great ability: to disappear at will as they did. Outside of the kingdom itself only a few knew of the unique skill of the natives of Emerald Valley, it being said they could talk with all the natural world. Plain as conversations between two people were the conversations of those of Emerald Valley, ones that were rich with meaning, respect, and a shared bond. It was both strange and wonderful to watch the dialogue by those who saw it; an encounter that wasn't easily forgotten. It was a mystery to all outside the kingdom, a great mystery that others sought to learn and master for evil. Little was it known, this evil that was left to grow in the shadows, that remained hidden from all the world, one that would rise at the cost of the lives of others.

It happened suddenly and with ferocious violence, the invasion on the kingdom! An assault by evil swept the land and it's people, mercilessly and in blinding speed their inhabitants were slain without regard for age, gender, or religious status. Their defending forces were taken easily, and the kingdom was all but lost....if not for an eerie presence felt from time to time.

A small faction of ten men, women and children managed to escape against all odds, disappearing in all the chaos, fleeing through lesser known canals to safety; the emerald valley and it's surrounding landscape were left in ruins.

The survivors were never discovered, never found to be missing. Yet, still to this day some say an unknown presence is witnessed moving about among the old ruins, only briefly before disappearing when discovered. Many wonder about this mystery, and what to believe as true in it all, in the legend of emerald valley.
