Songs For All

l'd often try and forget it, even laugh at the sad slogan on the welcome sign as I'd enter this poor little town; then I'd hear church bells sometimes. Some years I'd remember bits and pieces of songs that were played then, other years I wasn't sure of what old hymns were being played from the old church that carried throughout this little town. I could never ask anyone then, for no one was there to ask... until this year.

Entering the old town I (sadly) didn't think much of before I'd hear the songs play once more to my delight; and soon my surprise. Seeing some residents this time just down the street from where I was I'd call out, seeking to get their attention, and with that answers. the songs for all would take on new meaning. I'd question what church played them, and they'd tell me of the old church that played these songs and how often. "Every hour, all day.", they'd say, and my surprise would be evident, to which they'd follow up with, "Every day." when these songs for all were played. "Even at night?", I further inquired, and these new natives to the area (for they had been living there only a year or so now) simply replied with, "You get used to it." , at which I smiled. There was peace evident (whether you liked hymns or not) at the beautiful melodies and powerful truths expressed in these instrumentals. The more I thought of this the more something came to my mind: worship was continuous. Not everybody likes a worship song to God, and I understand that, but to think that no one objected to the song played even in the night (something I also asked these new natives to the town about) is nothing short of a blessing; for the blessing of peace was clear upon the worn old town.

Hearing such remarkably older songs that held up a standard of Righteous goodness, of joy, and even a peace on another day of running for me (where there was so much running and pressure) was the very welcome relief I needed in this tiny little town found playing songs for all to hear.
