A Long Journey (An Older Fiction/Non-Fiction Hybrid Piece I Wrote)

Note About The Piece Below: One day at a person's house I was doing work at, I met an old dog. I didn't realize how old right away....until I watched a little. He genuinely frightened me at first (because of his size), then I saw how he really was. I kept wondering what he thought with each action....and the words below came to me. At first I thought this was fiction (since the dog may not have thought this), but the very last line of my response to him made me think otherwise. So.... I'll call this hybrid I guess.

"Slow and steady.", he thought, walking along through another day of endless possibilities. He looked about, the bright and beautiful waking of life called out to him, and he answered with exploration.

Time shown upon his face, seen in the gray hairs clearly visible to all he met, those that hid his most priceless trait: kindness. Greeting each slowly and with the same expression upon meeting them, not everyone was sure what to think; those such as I. A larger dog he seemed scary, then he showed you himself in friendship and welcome. His had been a long journey, though the years have not taken his joy or gentleness, merely his youthful body. Hope in what was to be was still there, a new day to live, to love once again. It would be experienced slowly, yet it was experienced regardless of how long it took the old life.

"Slow and steady.", he thought to himself, walking along. "I wonder what else is here.", he asked quietly to himself as he explored the sunny day before him, looking about at life now waking up around him and enjoying another day to breathe and be; this beautiful God-given gift. It's been a long journey for the old dog, though he still wants to live it well, at peace. Time has not changed his youthful soul....his curiousity, wonder, or kindness. Let the same be said of me.
