For Good (An Older Fiction Story I Wrote)

He thought about it over and over, considering his friends in need. “It would be a great help to this family. “, he thought to himself. He knew the difficulty that was involved in such a move to help them. The shop would close if he didn't make money, if he didn’t use these resources to draw in business to his already severely struggling business; these were his friends though, and this was a family in need: a house that needed to be sold, to gain much needed transition and resources to thrive once more.

The buyers liked the house, but would only buy it if new paint was applied was what he was told by his friends. Thinking again on this, he was left in waves of indecision, "Do I risk giving paint to help this family or not?", he wondered, a family that couldn’t afford it. He knew the risks, he knew also this family of close friends of his. He watched their growth together and their current struggles. He knew how this move was going to help them. He was caught in the war he dealt with regarding the risks… then he remembered how he got his business up, how this family helped him to do so…and this is where the struggle would shift and become easier. It would cost him profit he needed to keep the store open yes, still he considered how they helped him when he was opening his business. It was then that the decision was made: to give sacrificially to help his friends build and heal as they once helped him to do.

That evening he loaded up his truck with the paint to deliver, all the color he had left needed in his resources to remodel his shop and draw customers in. After getting everything ready the next morning, he made some breakfast (which included toast) and loaded the meal into the truck before leaving for the delivery. Upon arriving at the house for sale he was greeted by waves of people. He knew there were offers on the house, but he didn’t expect this. The crowd gathered around his truck as he approached the house to be sold. A television crew showed up to air a home renovation episode for the house being sold! As one of his friends approached him upon arriving, he saw his surprise and quickly explained. Apparently in a last ditch effort to sell the house his friends applied to the show in order to sell the house, explaining their situation to the show’s producers. As he got out and began walking with his friend he also grabbed the plate of breakfast (with toast) kept warm in a container. He friend Roger asked about the breakfast and he explained his plans to him, just as they were walking along the show's producers heard the last half of the conversation. Encouraged and enthusiased by this offer of great friendship and sacrifice, they asked him if they could include it in the episode. He agreed and his world would be changed more than he would have known.

The episode aired soon after and all who heard of the owner's kindness came to his store. He sold out of everything in days and was not only able to stay open, but continued to grow his business...all because he risked it all for good.
