The Difference Consistency Makes
" Successful people do consistently, what others do occasionally. " . < This was the quote I heard Pastor Craig Groeschel of Life Church say in a sermon not long ago. To be fully transparent, I don't remember what the sermon was about, but that really stuck with me; 'cause I don't do consistently well for some reason. Call it lack of discipline, lazy, resistant to a rigid structure of living, or simply misinformed about the true joy of such regular consistency, I don't know. I only know I am FINALLY starting to learn this hidden gem after 44 years of life. It has been a game changer for sure.
Consistency doesn't have to be boring though, nor limited to only a few things. This can take place with the everyday life responsibilities, but also in the lesser known areas of life as well. We can consistently be kind to others and ourselves. We can choose to consistently be supportive and encouraging in a world that isn't always this way. We can even be consistent with what we believe; and these are only A FEW ways to do this! When we also remember that there is good that comes from such consistency we are also more inclined to be willing to be more consistent. It will not always happen all at once, but eventually blessings and joy will come. That cleaner house will reward a sense of pride and confidence. That returned kindness you didn't seek but found when you were kind encourages and empowers. Those restful times when you don't beat yourself up but find renewal when you've chosen to believe the good about you and NOT just what's wrong (Psalm 139:12-14).
Strive to be consistent, a little at a time, and if it doesn't work out well at first, keep trying. As I am learning (and finding encouragement in) you don't have to do ALOT OR be perfect in consistency, you just have to be willing to keep practicing that thing (whatever it is) you want to master and be successful in. Here's to you, wherever you are at with this. You can do it! I believe you can!
