A New Freedom

Sometimes it can be a bit too easy to get ensnared by many things, and ways, in life. Enter the rejection of a submission or application for something, the day filled with rocky roads and more hardships than we know what to do with, even the good thing we hope for that seems to never arrive; when things don't look the way we hope.

When I consider these trying moments of life I must admit I find comfort in the bold humanity displayed in many in the Bible. From Peter going fishing after Jesus was crucified, to the Israelites wanting more than simply manna. It's easy to get used to what is familiar and comfortable and not really be willing to look to Jesus for something better. That "quail" sounds better than this strange white, semi sweet wafer stuff we find (Manna LITERARY means, "What is it?" . Fun fact) Jesus providing. If we're all honest with ourselves we have all questioned those divine provisions just as the Israelites did in the wilderness. We have all lost hope after our hope has died and we go back to what we know.....because it's safe and seemingly appeasing for us in the moment (I am guilty of this).

There is a new freedom though waiting for us when we embrace a better faith through gratitude, through contentment, through the act of remembering what is good and the very promises of Jesus. It may look like "less than", a "failure", even "what it will always be"; and this is a lie and an imprisonment to destruction. When we stop seeking a temporary freedom outside of what truly is freedom (through Jesus and all He promises) and look to the good and blessed EVEN IN THE ORDINARY AND LEAST LIKELY we find what freedom is (Philippians 4:11-13). We may be tired of our "manna" at times, but if we remember these remarkable provisions we could never have received on our own (whatever those provisions are), and how they are from Jesus, we will know freedom....even if we are in a wilderness for a time.
