Usual

          Usual, or so we think, one more day in one more week and we are left feeling "blah." "It's the same thing.", we might argue. "Nothing's changed.", we might state, yet, it's not the truth. This is something I've even wrestled with from time to time, thinking there's nothing new in the middle of life. This isn't just a "usual" moment (or moments) though; this is the opportunity to live different. Sure we may be doing "the usual" things, meeting deadlines, fulfilling our "to-do lists" of required responsibilities, yet we can choose to find good even here. 


           Even as I write (or type) these words I feel the sting of failing to do that very thing at times: rejoice in a new day. Maybe life's difficult right now. Maybe plans have failed and depression has set in. Maybe it's something else that keeps us from seeing and believing any good IN.THAT.MOMENT; yet it's still there. 


            This isn't just the "usual" day, it's an opportunity for awe, gratitude, even hope and joy at the chance to see where Jesus is working (when we consider the day before us, wherever we are at in it), where we can even change things for good IN AND THROUGH Jesus. This is the "usual" becoming extraordinary as we see beautiful creation flying around us, hear a child's laughter, or even find rest for our weary souls in the kindness of a simple "Hello." from someone who could have just as easily not said anything and chose to live life with an open heart instead. 


             Thank You Jesus for this UNUSUAL revelation and promise, for helping me see it, see You, in spite of such a wild and busy day.

Making It Easier

        In an attempt to clean the blog up, add value, and make navigating it easier, I put several older posts together (below). Below is a mix of several different types of writing I've done, both new and old. Thanks for being here.         The Old Place On The Hill (Older Non-Fiction)        Sitting as one speaking stories of long ago, there remains the old place on the hill. The large old house of red brick stands steady yet worn, tired, though not enough to speak of it's long years long forgotten now. It speaks and none seem to listen....almost none. Years of lives lived there and it remains quiet, simply is, and this is it's final story.         Representing it's small "community" of dwellings, it stands to listen as they speak. When I Feel Invisible

         When I feel invisible, I slip into it, walk through life and humanity undetected; sometimes. I revel in the lack of pressure to measure up, to be something instead of someone.            When I feel invisible, I embrace the grace, create in the quiet that is granted, and look again. Look again at what I value, what I believe, where I find my worth and identity. In the hidden there is room to grow and my soul rejoices.             When I feel invisible, forgotten, I reflect back again, speak back to myself, and remind me I'm not, I just feel that way sometimes.
