What Stars Create (An Older Fiction Story I Wrote)

I'm an idea man, and I get ideas often. I see solutions, this is a gift, or skill, given me. So, you can imagine the idea I had( when walking one day down a street in our neighborhood) at the discovery made that day. Something flew at me out of the sky! I didn’t see it at first, until it nearly hit me. Out of instinct I threw my hands up to catch it. I held it, amazed that I caught (catching isn’t a skill of mine) it, and looked at it. It was a star! This meteorite rock glowed, though didn’t burn me. I didn’t get superhuman powers, or grow additional appendages. Strangely, I didn’t get sick or weaker either. I put it in my pocket, getting a feeling I needed to hide it for some reason, and continued walking.

I started walking back to the house, and as I did I was thinking about this star. “ How do I respond to this? What do I do with this? Should I show anyone? Why did this happen to me and not someone else?”, I thought to myself. Question after question invaded my thoughts, then, suddenly something was remembered! My grandparents place, left to me as an inheritance, with several acres, one hundred to be exact. Little did I know how far a hundred acres would go. No one really cared for the sad old place but me, so I went up there from time to time, repairing and maintaining what I could. I took this sudden revelation as a sign that I needed to take the star there, so I put it in a thick bag(to hide it), and got in my truck and drove there.

The old farm was far out in the country, but eventually I got there. After parking, and turning off the truck, I got out and walked toward the house. As I walked by the field( the house was close to the field on one side), the star glowed brighter! “Was it meant to be out there?” , I wondered, and walked out into the field. The star shined brighter still, and I was afraid the neighbors might see it, so I quickly hid it in my jacket. Remember how I said I was an idea man? This is where an idea came to me: “Plant it.” . “Plant it?!” , I thought. “Plant it.”, came the idea, so I did. I dug a hole with my hands, buried it like a seed, then covered it up. Not knowing what else to do, I got up and walked away. I had a strange feeling I needed to stay in the house that night, so I did. I had just lost my job, didn’t really have anywhere, or anyone, to go to, and so I washed up, ate what little was there, and went to bed, thinking of the star.

When I woke up, I heard a knock on the door. It was my neighbor. She looked shocked. “How did you get your crops to grow that big?! I didn’t know you started farming!?”, to which she pointed to the field, where the star was planted. Vegetables of various kinds grew to enormous proportions! I was shocked also, walking out to the field in disbelief and amazement! “How did you grow them so big?!”, repeated the questioning neighbor. “It was in the stars I guess(though I only had one). “, came my reply, to which the neighbor laughed, amazed, and said in response, “Apparently so!”.

People came from all over that day to see the sight of these 'super vegetables', and wanted to buy them! So, I sold the vegetables, one by one from the one hundred acres. Strangely enough though, after selling all I had, there was still enough to give to those in need who were too poor to buy some(for the area was a poor area). These one hundred acres helped more people than just me through what I sold!  People often wondered how they got their size, and as quickly as they did, my reply always remained, “ It was in the stars I guess.”(though I had only one). I’m just grateful for needs met(through the star, and selling of produce), and the chance to help others(the poor families and individuals in the area). I’m grateful for what stars create.
