A List For Today (A Slightly Older Fiction Story)

"Don't write it. It's not worth it. It will not make a difference.",  said a voice from somewhere echoing in my head; still I wrote, taking pen and paper in hand I began the list and started with the title "A List For Today". "Where to begin?", I thought to myself. "What would be on this list?", I questioned. Thinking over and over wondering where to start. "Start with today, a list for today.", arrived Divine inspiration in my thoughts. I was not used to lists, I was used to going with the flow, having no structure, and this very way of life led me to where I am now. "Begin the list." I instructed myself, and so I just wrote anything.

Live. The first thing I put on the list.
Be kind. The second thing I put on the list.
Give yourself Grace. The third thing I put on the list.
Use your time well. The fourth thing I put on the list.

So I went with that, carrying a pen with me and writing as things came to mind, filling in each bullet point that followed with a blank space after it before I left the house. A list for today to live, to be intentional.

Greet a stranger. I added after the fifth bullet point.

So I greeted a stranger.

Help someone with a door. I added after the sixth bullet point.

So I helped someone with a door being opened. I paid bills (to use my time and resources wisely,  making sure to give myself grace for those poor financial decisions I made). As the day went on I began adding more things, different things to this list, a list for today.

Take time to appreciate the day. I added after the seventh bullet point.

Take two minutes to do nothing was the eighth bullet point on my list.

Through the day anxiety became less as I made time to go down the list, a list for today. Recognizing the note that I put on the list to do ONE thing at a time and remember that it was NOT all simply responsibilities or one more thing that NEEDED to be done, but steps toward self-care and healthy emotional, mental, and spiritual improvements in my own life; ones that were being made that made everything easier though not always without struggle. It was here that this suggestion from a friend was my saving grace. This blessing that was given me through a friend that God worked through to heal me. Through a list for today where I added one more thing to that list.

Thank God and that friend for this much needed help for a stressed out soul is mine. Bullet point number nine.
