When Opportunity Was Eccentric (An Older Fiction Story I Wrote)

He had just left the interview in the high rise building, feeling inadequate and self-conscious. He doubted himself, over-analyzing every single detail of the interview. At that moment, believing the interview had not gone well, and his dream career forever lost to him, a noise was heard. His phone had alerted him to a new notification of some kind.

Ding! "Go to fifth St." . Puzzled by this seemingly random text, he wasn't sure what to make of it. He was leary of it, wondering how they got this number, why they were asking this of him (whoever they were), but decided to listen anyway and follow the instructions, making up his mind that if something seemed off he wouldn't continue. So, he proceeded cautiously, yet curiously.

He followed the instructions, when another text came. Ding! "Wait five minutes.”, then another, Ding! "Just makin' sure you were willing to follow steps. Good job!". Becoming very fearful that these people knew his movements, he wondered if he should continue. 2/1/2020 At that moment, he suddenly remembered two things: how people told him the company CEO was eccentric, and how he witnessed this at the most unusual interview he had for a workplace ever.

Just then another text came, and he decided to push past the fear and continue. Ding! "Now go to the coffee shop and order 'The works'.". He did just that, and as he took a sip of the hot drink  he quickly realized he now had a favorite drink as the next text arrived. Ding! "Now just enjoy that while walking to the Post Office. "

"The Post Office?! What?!", he thought, wondering why he'd have to go there when the next text made it's arrival known in the bell ringing alert once more. Ding! "Good isn't it? Keep going!", so he did, continuing to the Post Office, and then upon entering he heard the bell ring from his phone again. Ding! "Now buy a pack of stamps." And a rapid text quickly following the last was heard. Ding! "Those are for your checks for the job you just got hired for. Welcome to Dynex! We'll see you tomorrow at eight a.m. ! ". At this he smiled, grateful he answered, listened and followed, when opportunity was eccentric.
