In Night And Confusion (A Slightly Older Fiction Story I Wrote)

They saw me. I know they did. I seen their faces, the looks they had. Relief and surprise spoke volumes as they witnessed the light I displayed. Yellows and blues, greens even! They thought me another much loved bug, then they seen who I really was (to their surprise). I flew forward, guiding them out of the darkness, down the mountain trail that swallowed them in night and confusion. They enjoyed my presence and talked with each other about how unique I was. One of a kind I heard the husband say.

Down and down we went and then I disappeared when civilization and help was visible again. They lingered for a moment, wondered if they'd see me again; still, they continued toward needed help. In the darkness I was just grateful to have helped someone with my naturally lighting body. I am just encouraged to be one of a kind I guess. It's lonely sometimes though being the last surviving dragonfly that glows at night.
