Better Than Reality (An Older Fiction Story I Wrote)

I dreamed of carrots. They were bright, beautiful, and filling. I pictured myself eating them. Most wouldn't understand, I know, but they were so tasty it was unbelievable!

I hadn't eaten in days (running from danger tends to stop that when you can't eat); so you'll understand better when I tell you why this was a beautiful dream, and why the carrots were that tasty.

I knew if I stopped they'd find me. If I tried to eat I'd be dead...so I simply didn't.....until one day. One part of the journey when I made way across a barren field, a carrot field, and I fell asleep from all the running. The tunnels below it were safe. The darkness granted both protection and rest, and I slept. For hours I slept. I feasted, and enjoyed every bite there at the table. It was better than reality, especially one of a hungry rabbit running for his life from foxes wanting to eat him.
