A Hundred Days (An Older Fiction Story I Wrote)

One hundred miles for a hundred days. He stopped along the way, but began after each nights rest, never turning back.

A new car and a mission was before him: get to his brother in a hundred days. He wasn't sure yet why, only that it was important; so he set out. He was eager to try the new car out and set out early the next day. He'd set the gps, turn on the radio, and go. Every several miles he'd get a call, it was his brother. "Where are you now?", he'd ask, and he'd tell him. They'd finish the short conversation and end the call. Another day would start, he'd drive for several miles and his brother would ask again, "Where are you now?", and he'd tell him. Once more they'd end the short conversation and he'd keep driving.

He kept driving each day, kept getting the call each day, and on the last day there was no call. He wasn't sure what to make of this....part relieved and part confused...still he drove through the town where his brother lived and to his house. It was the hundredth day. People filled the street, everyone cheered loudly, and a cake was given him at his driver's side door. "Surprise!", everyone yelled as he exited the car as they all sang happy birthday to him. He began to think his birthday was forgotten, to think that day (his actual birthday) would not be celebrated, and his brother hugged him, smiled warmly, and simply said, " Happy Hundredth birthday." , as they both laughed. It wasn't his hundredth year, but they both loved a good adventure (the reason his brother sent him on the journey as a present), and both siblings always enjoyed their unique bond through such a strange sense of humor they shared. "Happy hundredth birthday indeed!", he thought to himself moved to silence at this big act of love.
